Design Statement: Victorian With a William Morris Color Palette
Often I find that I am drawn first to either the silhouettes for the costumes or the colors. Both design elements help tell the story of where and when. In the case of The Importance of Being Earnest the research into the mid 1890s presented very specific lines and mass. Therefore I needed to invent a color palette. The colors I chose were all from works by William Morris; the richness of his use of color was the perfect inspiration. Having a well defined color palette allows me to select fabrics that will make the drawings come to life.
