Design Statement:  Early Victorian Meets 1970s Punk and Frankenstein

 I create research collages for each character which I refer to as “Frankensteining.” While collecting images to inspire this design I realized that I could actually “Frankenstein” the costumes. My most unexpected research find was a Prada collection which was Frankenstein-themed. A reviewer noted that it “tackled humanity, danger and chaos” as does Sweeney Todd. The 1970s punk research inspired the use of safety pins to keep the layers in place and slashing layers to let other colors and textures show through. The looks were created from detailed color palettes, 1840s silhouettes, and thrift store and stock discoveries.
